Company Overview
Forterra Inc. is a federally incorporated Canadian company based in Toronto, Ontario. The Company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Forterra Environmental Corp., a federally incorporated public Canadian company listed on the TSX Venture exchange trading with the symbol FTE.
More than 70% of the world's waste stream consists of organic material (e.g., food, paper, leaves). Politicians and businesses are coming under increasing pressure to deal with this waste problem in ways that are less harmful to the environment than the current methods of landfilling and incineration. A key part of the solution to urban organic waste disposal lies in composting.
It is well known that organic material can be composted and therefore converted into a useful product. The demand for castings has existed for years, particularly among organic farmers.
The Forterra solution converts decomposed organic matter to create a top-grade product that restores the soil through organic enrichment. Further processing of the decomposed matter to create worm castings takes 15 days. Further, this is accomplished in an indoor environment that uses a fraction of the space required by outdoor operations, allows for strict quality control, and protects the product from contamination and vermin - all with an absolute minimum of odour.
These advantages make it possible to operate this large-scale processing operation in an urban setting for the first time.
